Mags Finished.

Mags.   8 x 10" on Arches smooth paper.

I didn't really enjoy this piece.   I did the BG  in both pastel and  prismacolor pencils.   With the pastel dust it is hard to get  the black working with Mags being in graphite.    It has been a goos experiment all the same.

You may not have enjoyed the process, Dors, but the product makes for excellent viewing.

I have to agree with Richard, Doreen. This is fabulous and I think the most color I've seen since I found your blog. This reminds me of a gorgeous bird book illustration.

I totally agree, any frustration you had during the piece has only produced a calm and serene creation :) I have only recently become interested in bird art have taken for granted even the birds I can see on a daily basis. Hope you are well, Jules

I hate when paintings aren't fun but this has turned out wonderfully well!

Dors, what a beautiful work you created!
Love the soft colour of the bg and leaves - and the magpie looks positively regal xx

It may have been a struggle but you in the battle but the score is Dors 1 and Picture 0. Nice work. Sometimes those struggles are the best things that can happen to us as we learn many new things because of them.

I think you pulled it off just fine Doreen.
Thanks for posting a message on my art blog. I used to do a lot of fish art and had a number of them reproduced in Wildlife magazines. Been a while and thought I should get a few more out in the wildlife art world.

We certainly can't tell you had problems here Dors and the finished result is worth all the challenges you had. I so know how you feel though. Mixing different mediums together can be either fun and satisfying or fraught with difficulties. Love Mags!!! :)

Thank you all so much. it was just one of those pieces that didn't really work for me.
It's growing on me. I think I felt the whole thing was too busy.
It's all in the name of learning and I am learning a lot.
Where would I be without your encouragement. :D

I think it is a lovely piece, but yes, we have to try out media, to find what suits us the best.

Hi Dors, this did turn out to be a lovely piece

Thank you Brenda. I'm never sure about mixing mediums other than the little touch of color that I usually add. It's always hard to know if we should have a BG or not when we do animals in graphite.

Hi Dors,

The magpie is beautiful, and your background only enhances it. Well done and you would never know you didn't enjoy doing this piece, it's fantastic.
