The Boys (Commission)

Here is the finished drawing 23 x 30 cm Prismacolor Pencils on Arches paper.

This one has been a tough challenge for me and a feeling of being out of my depth.
I think it's time to stick with the animals, houses and floral art.
Human portraiture is not the easiest I know.
Makes the likes of Armin Mersmann's works look out of this world.
It all comes down to ........... Practice Practice Practice.

Great Coloured Pencil work Dors. I love the composition and the finished portrait and I'm sure this will be a much cherished family piece.

I know exactly what you mean about the pressures of drawing human portraits - why is it so much easier to draw our four legged friends?

This looks wonderful, I have yet to tackle people (I am a chicken). I am sure the customer must be very pleased!

Thank you all so much for your kind comments always appreciated.

Sue. I agree it's easier to do 4 legged friends. I have to decide...do I want to keep practising and try to perfect the human portrait. It's a challenge that would be very rewarding.

Krista... Human portraiture to me is the hardest to do but I think once you have mastered it, It would be very rewarding.
Lisannerosalie.... Happy New Year to you too. Have a good one.
Maria... Thank you, always appreciate you feedback.

Dors, I think you did a marvelous job. I say - do what you enjoy. In fact, that's my main new year's resolution. I spent last year trying to figure out what sells, and painting it. I didn't realize anymore profit than I did when I was painting what I wanted to the year before. So, I'm back to following my passion. Find your joy and go for it!

You've evidently done it right as you can definitely see the resemblance in the two boys! I have just laid out a child for a pastel portrait and you give me courage to go on with it! I've never done a complete portrait before - gulp!

Beautiful job on this - I hope you do more!

Dors, You did a great job for feeling out of your depth! It is always good though to challenge ourselves as artists from time to time. Then we can get back to doing what we love!
