Goliath Bird Easting Tarantula ( Big B.......)

©Doreen Cross

I don't think I would like thos crawling over me even though I am not afraid of spiders.
Graphite 19 x 14cm on Arches smooth 300gm paper.
It's pretty close to the actual sixe of the spider. You can just see the eyes and the mouth 4 tiny white dots.... that's the eyes and the mouth underneath is closed.

Doreen, I don't know how you could draw this - I'm petrified of spiders! You have deadly ones down there too, don't you? - makes me shudder!! Nice drawing though, all the same ;)

This was was safely tucked away in the Melbourne Zoo.

Spiders are so hard to depict Dors...especially black ones. You've done such a great job on this guy...I think they are cute, but I agree...I don't like them crawling around on me. The wolf spiders we have here will actually rear back and take an attack stance as you reach to crush their 1/2" little furry black bodies. The black widows I don't mess with...I spray them with wasp killer from afar.

Thanks Deb for your kind comment.
We have lots of spiders here but not the size of this one.. It's firmly caged at the Melbourne Zoo. It's roughly the size of a man's hand spread out.
I don't think I would like to meet a black widow or wolf spider.
