Experimenting

Here is the start of the Hut. I am still not sure how this is going to end up

I am experimenting a mixed media drawing on drafting film. using Faber-Castel Pitt Pens,(Black & Sepia) Prismacolor Pencils and Graphite pencils. . You may say OMG.. but I feel like trying this out on an old timber hut. I will post an image of where I am up to tomorrow when the light is better. If it doesn't work ... What have I to lose. Just a little creative time.

Sounds intriguing Dors.

I've experimented using watercolour for a background (reverse side) and CPs on front of drafting film and that worked well as a 'quick and nasty' test - I didn't take it any further though (another of my half-finished projects)!!

Look forward to seeing the updates

Sounds intriguing, Doreen, it's good to experiment. You have whetted our appetite now! :)

I'm not a fan of drafting film Dors, probably because of the temptation to trace that this support has. However, I await with interest to see the outcome of your experimentation.

I will be fascinated to see what you think Dors - I found the Pitt Pens needed fixing or they smudged very easily, but they also blend very nicely on the drafting film. I know some artists do have the same thoughts as Richard (above) about drafting film, but there are so many artists who transfer their image from one image (whether photo or sketch) to their main artwork using a myriad of different techniques. I do use the drafting film to trace the basic outline, but that is because for me the fun part is playing with colour and shades and tones, in a range of techniques, and this has nothing to do with tracing - it just makes the process a bit quicker.

Thank you all so much for your comments.
I agree with you Karen... I only do a very minute amount of tracing..that is just to get the roof line at the right angle etc. The rest is for fun and technique,
Using the Pitt Pen..The sepia works fine..I don't seem to be able to work the black ink too well.

I think the amount of ink will be minimal and mostly done with graphite, sepia ink and CP's.

It's som uch fun just to play with different media and see where it takes me.
LOL It could take it to bin. but I will plod on with this and see. I just want it to look very old and rustic.

Looking nice Dors! Glad to learn that you are using the drafting film and experimenting with it. This is going to be really nice when it's done. Don't give up on it!

This is looking good so far, Doreen, do keep going with it! I've never used drafting film - maybe I'll give it a go one day :)

This is coming along wonderfully. Can't wait to see the finished product and know how you feel it turned out on that support.

Colette, Janet & Maria. Thank you for your kind comments. They are always appreciated.
The Sepia Ink is working ok but I feel CP works better. The Black ink is not working at all. I'm still working to that old rustic look...
Update today.
